From March through November the museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 1 to 4 pm. Tours are scheduled at other hours by advance reservation. In December and February the museum is open only on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 to 4 pm. The museum is closed the month of January.
Cost: Adults $5; Seniors and Students $3; Children under ten free, families of four or more, no more than $20.
The Hoover-Minthorn House Museum was the boyhood home of Herbert Hoover, 31st President of the United States, in Newberg, Oregon, from 1885-1888.
It is preserved as a memorial of Herbert Hoover's boyhood and also in honor of the Dr. Henry John Minthorn family and physicians in rural 19th century America.
It also illustrates a typical pioneer Quaker home in the Newberg community. Restored to its original condition, it contains original furnishings, as well as memorabilia belonging to President Hoover, the Minthorn family and members of the local community. (photo Courtesy of The Oregonian)
The Hoover-Minthorn House Museum is owned and operated as a non-profit organization by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in Oregon.
The Museum is located one block south of Hwy. 99W. If you are entering Newberg on 99W from the north (Portland-Metro area), watch for the left-turn lane to S. River St. If you are entering Newberg on 99W from the south (Salem/McMinnville area), turn right to S. River St. The museum will be on your right, at the corner of 2nd and River. Parking is along the street, and additional parking is across the street at Hoover Park.
